How to Load a Low Car Without Scraping

Love your splitter? Let’s keep it mint. Here’s how we load low cars safely.

Increase approach angle, control motion with a winch, and protect the rails. This playbook keeps splitters and diffusers out of harm’s way.

Increase approach angle

  • Use ramp extensions or wood planks to lengthen the ramp and reduce the breakover angle. Aim to keep the bumper/splitter clear by inches, not millimetres.

Use a winch for control

  • Rather than driving on, slow-winch the car with a spotter. Keep wheels straight and steer in micro-inputs. Stop every few feet to check clearance at the lip, mid-chassis, and diffuser.

Block under jacking points

  • If you risk high-cantering, place low blocks under the rails so the car never rests on body panels. Remove blocks once the car is fully on deck.

Tie down gently—but solidly

  • Use wheel nets on the tires or soft loops on approved suspension points. Avoid compressing coil overs fully; you want controlled movement, not solid binding.

Pro tip

  • Remove or raise front splitters when possible; tape foam to vulnerable edges for extra insurance.

Rule of thumb: if the splitter clears by less than ~1 in, add extensions until clearance is 2–3 in at the lip.

Low‑car load checklist

  • Ramp extensions set; planks secured and level

  • Spotter in place; radio/hand signals agreed

  • Winch line cantered; hook rated; soft strap on tow hook

  • Blocks under jacking points ready; floor swept

  • Wheel nets/soft loops staged; fender/edge foam applied

  • Re‑check after 5–10 miles

Clearance is a number game—add ramp, add safety.

Got a slammed setup? Book our enclosed trailer with E‑track and winch—we’ll help stage ramp extensions for easy loading.
